Endometriosis affects an estimated one in nine Australian women and can significantly impact quality of life, fertility, and daily function. Chinese Medicine offers valuable complementary care that many women find transformative alongside their conventional medical management.
In Chinese Medicine, endometriosis is most commonly understood as a condition of Blood Stasis, and treatment focuses on moving stagnation, reducing inflammation, regulating the menstrual cycle, and addressing underlying patterns of Qi and Blood deficiency or excess.
Pain is where the evidence is best. Several randomised trials and systematic reviews report reduced period pain and lower overall pain scores with acupuncture in endometriosis, though the trials are small and reviewers rate the quality of the evidence as low to moderate. The evidence for Chinese herbal medicine in endometriosis is weaker again: a Cochrane review concluded there was not enough good-quality evidence to draw conclusions. We use herbs where the pattern fits, and we describe them for what they are.
We treat: dysmenorrhoea (painful periods), pelvic pain, pain during intercourse, period irregularities, pre-menstrual symptoms, endometriosis-related fatigue, and fertility challenges associated with endometriosis. Our approach works alongside your gynaecologist and any surgical or hormonal management you are receiving.
