Menopause is a profound hormonal transition, and Chinese Medicine offers a highly personalised approach to managing its symptoms. Rather than a one-size-fits-all protocol, our treatment is tailored to your specific menopausal pattern, whether that's predominantly Heat, Yin deficiency, or a more complex picture.
A 2019 study in BMJ Open found that acupuncture reduced hot flushes, excessive sweating, sleep disturbances and emotional symptoms after a five-week course, with benefits still present at six-month follow-up. Worth knowing before you read too much into it: that trial had no sham control, so some of the effect may be expectation rather than the needles. Reviews of the wider literature generally find acupuncture better than no treatment, but often no better than sham, for hot flushes specifically. Our read is that it is a reasonable thing to try, particularly if hormone therapy is not an option for you, and not a certainty.
Symptoms we commonly treat include: hot flushes and night sweats, insomnia and disturbed sleep, mood changes, anxiety and irritability, fatigue and brain fog, vaginal dryness, and joint pain and stiffness.
Treatment combines acupuncture with Chinese herbal medicine (where appropriate), nutritional guidance, and lifestyle recommendations. We work alongside your GP and gynaecologist and can help you make an informed decision about your broader menopause management options.
