PCOS Management

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common hormonal conditions affecting women of reproductive age, and one of the most frustrating to live with. Chinese Medicine offers complementary support that many women find useful alongside their medical management.

The research picture is mixed, and it is worth knowing which parts are which. Small trials of electro-acupuncture have reported effects on ovulation frequency and androgen levels. But the largest randomised trial to date, PCOSAct in 2017, found that acupuncture did not improve live birth rates in women with PCOS. So we treat PCOS symptoms and quality of life, and we do not present acupuncture as a fertility treatment for PCOS.

Our team develops personalised treatment plans addressing your specific PCOS pattern, which may involve: cycle regularity and period symptoms, acne and skin changes, support with dietary change and weight, fatigue, and anxiety and mood. Where PCOS is affecting your fertility, we work alongside the specialist managing that rather than in place of them.

Chinese herbal medicine is a powerful component of PCOS treatment, with formulas selected to address the specific Chinese Medicine pattern underlying your presentation. We also provide detailed dietary and lifestyle guidance based on both traditional and modern evidence.
