Preparing for Pregnancy

Some patients come before they begin trying to conceive or before an IVF cycle because they want time to address existing symptoms, establish a supportive routine and make practical changes without the pressure of an active treatment schedule. Others arrive later. There is no single lead-in period that everyone needs.

Appointments can focus on concerns such as period pain, heavy bleeding, PMS and other cycle symptoms, together with general wellbeing and the emotional load of trying to conceive. Where cycle tracking is useful and does not add anxiety, we can help you understand the information it provides. Anything that needs medical investigation should be investigated rather than waited out.

For both partners, we can discuss established pre-conception considerations such as smoking, alcohol, folate and iodine guidance, and heat exposure for men, with referral to a GP, pharmacist or dietitian where individual medical or nutritional advice is needed.

Treatment may include acupuncture and, where appropriate and agreed with your medical team, Chinese herbal medicine. Research has not established that acupuncture improves egg quality or guarantees conception, so your plan is built around concerns that can be reviewed in their own right rather than a promised fertility outcome.
