Moxibustion

Moxibustion involves the burning of dried mugwort (moxa) near or on acupuncture points to introduce warmth and stimulate circulation. It is considered one of the key tonifying treatments in Chinese Medicine, deeply nourishing and restorative.

At Rozelle Acupuncture, we use moxa in a variety of forms, including moxa sticks, moxa cones, and warm needle moxibustion (where moxa is burned on the handle of an acupuncture needle). Each method delivers therapeutic warmth to different depths in the tissue.

Moxibustion is particularly beneficial for: cold and deficiency patterns, fatigue and low energy, digestive weakness, fertility support, turning breech babies (the famous SP67 moxibustion protocol), chronic wounds, and conditions aggravated by cold or damp.

Many patients find moxibustion deeply relaxing and comforting. The distinctive smoky aroma of moxa is considered therapeutic in itself within the Chinese Medicine tradition.
